The next meeting of the Friends of the New Mills Community Orchard will be on Thursday 2nd September 2010 at 7.30pm at the Library Lecture Room in the New Mills Town Hall.
Here’s a map if you’re not sure how to find the meeting. The entrance to the Library Lecture Room is to the right of the entrance to the library itself, not the main entrance to the Town Hall.

Mark your calendars for the Sunday, September 19, from 2 pm to 4 pm for the New Mills Community Orchard Apple Day celebration. There will be a treasure hunt, face painting, stalls, pippin planting, and cakes galore! Fun for the family!
Come join in or just relax in the orchard.

The Community Orchard’s owl mascot was officially named on 13 February. “Scrumpy” had his big day when he was named by young Tom, who came up with the name. You can see photos of the event on the orchard’s Facebook page. More pictures are available in Pat Stanway’s online collection.
In gratitude for his efforts, Tom was presented with a copy of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson.
Scrumpy, along with the other wood carvings on view at the orchard, was created by local artist Andrew Frost.

Thanks to everyone who came! It was a great day - we estimate around 300 people came through the gates and enjoyed the beautiful weather. There are a few more pictures on our Facebook page - I was personally too busy to take many, as I was helping out with the archery - which was certainly well attended! I’ll see if the other volunteers got any photos, and put them up soon.
