New Mills Community Orchard
When visiting New Mills Community Orchard, please do so under the current government guidelines that they have set out.
New Mills Community Orchard was established by the local community in 2006 on a site adjacent and to the west of High Lea Park.
The successful development of the orchard has relied on the hard work of the local community and over the years considerable progress has been made.
The Orchard encourages community involvement:
- Local people have been involved in creation and operation of the orchard.
- Local schoolchildren were involved in tree planting and logo design.
- The Orchard links with other community groups, eg. New Mills Library, U3A, the Allotment Society, Transition New Mills Transition, etc.
- Participation and hosting community events, e.g. annual Apple Days, New Mills Festival, One World Festival, Wassailing.
- Orchard promotion via our website, Facebook, events and press coverage.
- Links forged with other community orchard groups, including Hayfield, Buxton and Bradwell.
- Provision of support for creation of new orchards, eg. In local schools.
Our main objective is to manage, maintain and enhance the orchard and the associated habitats and species for the benefit of the local community and wildlife.
